High definition TV and the two main options

12 Dec 2007 17:16

Plasma and LCD could be popular this Christmas In an interview with the NY daily News, Jack Halperin, director of merchandising at electrical retailers PC Richard & Son, said that high-definition television has caused many consumers to consider new home cinema solutions.

He adds that both LCD and plasma offer a lightweight, space saving option and that both formats have a number of advantages that compete with the other.

"Plasma is often credited with slightly better contrast ratio between black and white images and a wider viewing angle. LCD is sometimes deemed to provide more realistic color reproduction and better energy efficiency," he said.

However he added that plasma TVs are known to cause some issues with glare due to their protective screen coating and that as a personal choice he would take the LCD option.

Earlier this week, Harlan Lawson of A&B TV told kvue.com that the differences between the two formats were narrowing.
