Hitachi set to develop thinner screens
08 Feb 2008 17:36
Hitachi has announced plans for the development of a new plasma screen with a thickness of ten mm, a report claims.According to Thomson Financial news service, the firm is set to introduce the model in 2010 as part of a drive to increase competitiveness within the sector.
The ten mm screen would be less than one-third of the thickness of the screens it is to introduce next year, which have a depth of around 35 mm.
Hitachi is looking to capitalise on the growing demand for ultra-thin screens, the news service claims.
Further to this, plans for the development of an LCD panel with a thickness of 15 mm are also on the cards.
Hitachi earlier this week stated that ultra-thin screens offered a range of positives, including reduced energy consumption, bright pictures and high-contrast images.
Further to this, they demonstrate "luxury" and "prestige", the firm said.
