18 Jun 2007 15:30

LG or Hitachi: Plasma Display Panel battle Flat-panel TVs are becoming increasingly popular as you, dear technology-news reader and frequenter of mangotango, are probably well-aware.

As the demand for such top-notch tellies continues to rise, the various companies which make these boxes of home-entertainment wonderment are steadily creating ways to improve them.

Understandably, some companies have got rather protective of their designs, and as such you may not be too shocked to hear that LG Electronic is suing rival firm Hitachi in a row over plasma display panels (PDPs).

According to Reuters news agency, LGE believes that the Japanese firm has infringed seven of its PDP patents and is seeking monetary compensation, as well as a halt to the sale of Hitachi displays.

Hitachi spokesman Masatoshi Terashi said that the company has not received a copy of the suit and that he was not able to give any comment.

However, LG Electronics did offer comment on the suit, and said in a statement: "Japanese firms are filing more and more lawsuits as competition in the global display market has increased dramatically. We will proactively deal with the situation based on our patented and patent-applied-for technologies."
