Home theatre group backs Blu-ray

US home theatre retail association to support Blu-ray. The Home Theatre Specialists of America (HTSA) announced this Monday that it will be exclusively supporting the Blu-ray (BD) disc format as the high definition war continues unabated.

The national association of home theatre retailers, which has nearly 70 members, found that 92 per cent of all its members' high definition disc sales were attributed to the BD format, with most of the remainder being made up of dual-format players.

According to consumer electronics industry magazine Twice, the HTSA pointed to greater device capacity, more manufacturer support and a wider selection of available content as the key reasons in reaching its decision.

Richard Glikes, chief executive of the organisation, said: "The industry looks to HTSA as an expert for custom home theatre, built upon a foundation of the top consumer electronic retailers across the country.

"Based on our member research and observations in the field, it is clear that HTSA customers have made Blu-ray Disc their preferred HD format for movies and other packaged video content."

Last month, in a major coup for the Blu-ray camp, PC and notebook manufacturer Acer announced that it was switching support from HD DVD to BD.
