Flat panel tellies are definitely winning over consumers We know you like to keep abreast of all things interesting and important in the world of technology, least of all because you like to make informed choices when you purchase the latest high-definition gadget or shiny new gizmo for your home entertainment pleasure!

So, mangotangoers, we know how intrigued you will be to learn that sales of flat panel displays are going up and up - and as of yet there is no sign of them slowing.

According to a new report from DisplaySearch, revenues for TFT LCD items have experienced a rather large year-on-year growth (in case you're wondering, TFT LCD - or thin film transistor liquid crystal display - is a variant of LCD technology which makes use of thin film transistor technology to get a higher-quality picture).

The data shows that in the three-month period from April to June this year flat-panel sales increased by 15 per cent when compared to the same period in 2006 while year-on-year revenues had grown by 16 per cent.

It was also found that TFT LCD technologies made a huge 90.1 per cent contribution to this revenue, 24 per cent more than last year.

OLED technologies, fairly new to the market, made up 0.5 per cent of sales but poor old plasma technology has taken a bit of a dip, generating just 4.8 per cent of sales and dropping by 36 per cent year-on-year.
