LCD TV sales on the up

15 Aug 2007 11:49

LCD Television sales going up and up! It seems that sales of LCD TVs are starting to outstrip those of their plasma rivals.

New research from consultancy DisplaySearch has revealed that during the second quarter of this year (that's April to June for all you non-business types) LCD TV panel shipments increased by 32 per cent when compared to the previous quarter.

This figure also equates to a year-on-year increase of 65 per cent which, to even those of you who are completely disinterested in figures, must seem pretty impressive.

A whopping 19.6 million panels were shipped overall and LCD TVs increased their share of the market from last year's figure of 42 per cent to 68 per cent.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson for DisplaySearch said: "This can be attributed to the amount of optimised Gen 7 and larger LCD fab capacity brought online, to the success of LCD TV brands and retailers in getting consumers excited over 1080p TVs where LCDs have dominated PDPs and to the greater number of LCD TV brands overwhelming plasma TV brands in retail."
