LCDs outnumber but plasma is not yet outgunned

Panasonic has not given up on plasma Panasonic's latest 42-inch TH42PZ70B panel proves that plasma panels have not given up the fight, according to a new review.

In an article for the HDTV news website, Franz Bicar states that the number of LCD panels currently on the market vastly outnumbers the plasma panel releases, but adds that the TH42PZ70B does enough to challenge their dominance.

With a high contrast ratio and 1080p high definition, Mr Bicar suggests that the model "is a serious contender as an alternative to 1080p LCD televisions", but notes that the manufacturer may have let itself down by offering only two HDMI connections.

"It only has two HDMI 1.2 inputs when most of today's television comes in with three HDMI 1.3 inputs," he said.

However, he notes that an SD slot, which will allow for photos and other content to be viewed straight from a digital camera or mobile phones, is a welcome addition and adds that overall the screen performance is good.

"The Panasonic TH42PZ70B produces clean and detailed pictures and at the same time handles motions excellently," he concludes.

Earlier this month, Matsushita, the manufacturer behind Panasonic announced it would begin development of a plasma range that uses half the power of current models.
