LG making HDTVs available in hotel rooms

17 May 2007 11:15

LG Electronics launch a range of HDTVs for hotel rooms Being stuck in a hotel room can often be unquestionably dull. Particularly if the TV is a tiny bulky set with awful reception and the only programme worth watching is a three-year-old episode of Neighbours.

However, this may all be about to change as LG Electronics has announced that it plans to make high-definition TVs available for hospitality, reports Hotel and Motel Management.

LG displayed its HDTVs at the HD2007 Hospitality Design Expo & Conference in Las Vegas. These sets have built-in H.264 decoding technology from the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG-4), which enables the display of satellite-delivered high-definition (HD) content.

Ron Snaidauf, vice president of commercial products for LG, said: "With the growing demand for options to deliver HD content to hotel guests, LG understood the importance of developing both an innovative and simple solution for the lodging industry with our high-definition flat-panel displays integrated with MPEG-4 technology."

A major bonus of the MPEG-4 technology is that is built into the sets, eradicating the need for an external box and freeing up space in hotel rooms.

And what's more, the MPEG-4 technology provides compatibility with over 150 national HD channels and 1,500 local broadcast HD and digital channels, meaning you won't be stuck watching out-of-date episodes of Australian soaps.
