New Viera models boost blacks

Panasonic knows contrast ratios are vital A high contrast ratio is essential on a new flat screen and the latest range of plasma and LCD TVs from Panasonic have plenty, it has been suggested.

According to an article for bigpicturebigsound.com, "when it comes to enjoyable TV pictures, it's all about the blacks" and the black level reproduction - or contrast ratio - on offer from the manufacturer's Viera series have it "in spades".

It is reported that Panasonic's current models, which include Viera LCD and plasma screens, come equipped with contrast ratios of between 15,000:1 and 1,000,000:1.

The site adds that recently the company unveiled its latest Viera screens which will soon be available and that these exhibit "clearly superior contrast levels and a visibly improved anti-glare screen coating that minimizes reflections of ambient light off the screen".

It is also noted that even the entry level 720p PX screens have seen their levels boosted from 10,000:1 to 15,000:1.
