New approach to Xbox 360 in Europe

26 Jul 2007 12:23

Xbox 360 console Everybody makes mistakes from time to time. Even us fab fold at mangotango can occasionally get things wrong. This morning for instance, someone accidentally put salt instead of sugar into their tea. But that's beside the point.

At other times, problem situations can be more troublesome than a mouthful of salty tea. Take the launch of the Xbox in Europe. According to Xbox bosses, the console wasn't marketed properly in some countries. However, they have said that they won't be making that mistake again.

Speaking in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, EMEA Xbox platform and marketing boss Richard Teversham said that it will be the variety of content available for the Xbox 360 that will play a big part in its success across Europe.

He said: "In northern Europe, it's about competitive fun - and that's where we've really done well. We've got the Project Gothams and the Halos. It's fun, but its serious competitiveness.

"In southern Europe, it's actually about simple fun. It's an easy experience, it's not this time-eating drain on what you want to do. So, you've got different bits of content, you've got different types of marketing and you've got how price sensitive different markets are as well."

And affirming these comments, Xbox Europe boss Chris Lewis added: "We've got pockets of fantastic achievement in EMEA and I think the UK is an example of that."
