New plasma to support YouTube

YouTube could soon be available on the big screen Panasonic is set to release a plasma television that will allow users to view online content from YouTube, it has emerged.

According to Digital Spy, Matsushita - the company behind Panasonic - has developed a screen in collaboration with YouTube owner Google that will allow people to view video clips from the website in widescreen format.

It is reported that the screen will be released under the Viera name and is set to go on sale to the general public in the US during spring 2008 - a release date for the panel in the UK has yet to be confirmed.

"This is the first time mainstream consumers will be able to easily enjoy YouTube videos from the living room with the enhanced quality of a fully-integrated widescreen TV experience," said Toshihiro Sakamoto, president of Panasonic AVC Networks.

Earlier this week Sony launched an add-on that allows owners of Bravia LCD panels to access web content provided by US channel CBS.
