PS3 gets new firmware update

15 Jun 2007 13:30

Firmware update for the PlayStation 3 Any proud owner of a 7th generation console will know that the second a brand new update - of any shape or form - becomes available, you just gotta have it!

So those folk who have a PS3 that have had the time to have a go on their favourite platform this morning will no doubt have been pleased to see that they can now take advantage of a firmware update that is capable of patching up any colour-related/picture issues.

A message posted by PlayStation network operations director Eric Lempel on the Play Station blog yesterday (Thursday) informs users that the firm has created the update to solve various RGB colour model issues which have been affecting the picture quality of games played on the console.

He wrote: "[The] firmware upgrade 1.81 … will fix a few small issues some of you have noticed. Most notably is the RGB Full setting which a few of you wrote in about. In 1.80 we added an option to the XMB under settings allowing you to choose between RGB Full and Limited.

"Basically if you are connecting your PS3 to your TV using an HDMI cable, and if your TV supports RGB full range, the picture quality may be improved when this option is set to Full.

"Please keep in mind that this setting is only effective when the PS3 is connected to a TV using an HDMI cable."
