And what's more, the firm has also made plans to introduce a new version of the PS3 into the country.
The 60GB PS3 will now be reduced from JPY60,000 (£253) to JPY54,980 (£232), while the 20GB version will retail for JPY44,980 (£189) as of Wednesday, October 17th, down from JPY49,980 (£210).
Sony is also going to introduce its latest model, the 40GB Playstation 3, to Japan for a recommended retail price of JPY39,980 (£168) on November 11th. It will be less expensive than the 20GB model because it has fewer USB ports, no memory card slots and no backwards memory - meaning that it cant play games designed for the PS2, its predecessor.
Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman Sousuke Kamai commented: "We will be focusing on the PlayStation 3 software."
