PS3 price cuts for Japan

10 Oct 2007 15:30

Japanese gamers will be able to get the PS3 for less Sony has only just announced that the price of the PS3 console has been lowered in Europe, but now the electronics giant has revealed that it is to reduce the price of the top-notch unit in Japan as well.

And what's more, the firm has also made plans to introduce a new version of the PS3 into the country.

The 60GB PS3 will now be reduced from JPY60,000 (£253) to JPY54,980 (£232), while the 20GB version will retail for JPY44,980 (£189) as of Wednesday, October 17th, down from JPY49,980 (£210).

Sony is also going to introduce its latest model, the 40GB Playstation 3, to Japan for a recommended retail price of JPY39,980 (£168) on November 11th. It will be less expensive than the 20GB model because it has fewer USB ports, no memory card slots and no backwards memory - meaning that it can’t play games designed for the PS2, its predecessor.

Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman Sousuke Kamai commented: "We will be focusing on the PlayStation 3 software."
