Panasonic believes 'size does matter'

10 Jan 2008 12:35

Panasonic quests for the largest screen Following the unveiling of the world's first 150-inch plasma TV this week, one expert has asked "can a TV be too big?".

According to an article for Journalnow.com by Tim Clodfelther, having a television that takes up most of the wall it stands in front of is clearly desirable to some as the manufacturers continue to try to outdo each other in terms of size.

Mr Clodfelther cites the unveiling of Panasonic's 150-inch plasma as "one of the showstoppers at this year's Consumer Electronics Show" and states that the clarity and performance of the screen is a result of the heightened competition in the market.

He states that in 2005 Panasonic introduced the 103-inch plasma and since then the company has fought to stay ahead of the game.

This is something that is backed up by Geoff Holman, a salesman with Panasonic, who believes that developments in a number of areas have allowed the firm to continue to retain its title as the company with the world's largest plasma.

"We've been developing new materials, and we increased the efficiency of the luminance, which made the power consumption better. We've rethought the whole process of flat-panel construction," he said.

Earlier this week, Sharp announced it was to release a new 108-inch LCD TV.
