Panasonic to reduce power usage

06 Feb 2008 17:51

Panasonic are set to offer greener TVs Matsushita, which is the manufacturer behind the Panasonic brand, is to develop a range of plasma TVs that use half as much power as the current models on offer from the firm.

The company, which is the world's largest manufacturer of plasma screens, hopes to make the screens more competitive with LCD panels in terms of energy consumption.

"We plan to expand the lineup so that we will be able to reduce the power consumption of all PDP [plasma display panel] TVs to be on a par with that of LCD TVs by 2009, the senior managing director of Panasonic and president of Panasonic AVC Networks Toshihiro Sakamoto said, Tech On reports.

The development of stricter regulations over energy consumption in both the European and Japanese markets will not be an issue for Panasonic's more energy-efficient panels, the firm claims.
