Philips goes 'green' for new TVs

25 Sep 2007 18:26

Eco-friendly new TV panels from Philips Electronics manufacturer Philips has launched a new range of environmental flat panel LCD TVs that promote energy efficiency.

The company, which revealed the new EcoVision scheme earlier in the year to denote its most energy efficient products, released the new TV screens in 37-inch, 32-inch, 26-inch and 19-inch sizes.

Each makes use of Philips' patented Ambilight technology, which replaces the energy demanding fluorescent lamp lighting system with a series of light emitting diodes (LEDs) that only require 60 per cent as much power.

They also come with all the expected features, such as HD resolutions up to 1080p (1920 x 1080) and high contrast ratios.

Philips announced this week that it is aiming for 30 per cent of its total revenues to come from green products by 2012, compared with 15 per cent in 2006.

The company's EcoVision programme also includes reducing the energy consumption of its facilities and operations by 25 per cent. It said that it would be doubling its investment into green innovations in the next five years.
