Less energy use from Phillips' latest Phillips have announced the launch of a new 42-inch LCD TV screen that offers increased energy-efficiency without cutting the picture quality.

According to the HDTV News website, the manufacturer's new Eco FlatTV LCD panel will be available to UK consumers in June and uses the company's Ambilight technology to monitor levels of light and alter the screens energy use accordingly.

With a price tag expected to be around £1,100, the new screen will come equipped with full 1080p high definition (HD), four HDMI ports, "invisible" speakers and Pixel Plus HD technology.

It is reported that the panel will use an estimated 0.15W of power when left on standby and is manufactured using only lead-free components and flame-retardant materials as well as coming in recycled packaging.

A recent article for electronichouse.com, suggested that with an increasing emphasis on energy-efficiency from both government and manufacturers, consumers could expect to see more eco-friendly flat screen in the future.
