Pioneer moves into small-screen LCD market

18 Feb 2008 13:49

Pioneer already has a stake in the plasma TV industry Consumer electronics company Pioneer has announced it is to expand its range of flat screen TVs, according to hdtvorg.co.uk.

The website reports that the Japanese manufacturer has announced it will begin to produce smaller LCD TV screens later this year in response to increased demand and a growing market for the units.

Pioneer has previously only offered large plasma TVs and Jim Catcheside, Pioneer's product manager, recently hinted at the move following recent structural developments at the company.

"I think it would be natural to assume that following Sharp's 14 per cent share holding in Pioneer, we might well see LCD products into our lineup in the not too distant future," the website reports he said.

It has not yet been confirmed exactly what new panels can be expected from Pioneer, however, recent models such as added to the popular Kuro range have continued to build on the company's reputation.
