Pioneer produce 50in version of ultra-slim prototype

06 Feb 2008 17:09

Pioneer has produced a new ultra-slim television A 50 inch version of Pioneer's Advanced Design Concept plasma prototype has just been produced with staggering proportions.

The electronics company has confirmed that the TV comes in at just 9mm thick and 40 pounds in weight - tricking viewers to thinking that it is merely floating on the wall rather than attached to it, reports HDTVorg.

Capitalising on plasma technology, the television uses pixels that illuminate themselves that has the advantage over LCD TVs which need a backlight and thus extra width to
be added to the panel.

The 50 inch television is the first model to be developed as part of the Advanced Design Concept prototype but details regarding its eventual commercial release have yet to be divulged.

Consumers may have to wait until the very least 2009 to get their hands on the slim-line television which currently has no announced price tag.

Pioneer was founded in Tokyo in 1983 by Nozomu Matsumoto who started out manufacturing speakers in his garage.
