Pioneer to focus on new LCD panels

04 Mar 2008 14:00

Pioneer will move away from plasma production Pioneer has announced that it is to stop production of plasma TV panels and focus its attention on the growing LCD TV market.

According to Reuters, the Japanese manufacturer has been struggling to compete with Matsushita in the plasma market and has this week announced that it will instead procure future panels from the company.

This could mean that consumers could soon see a range of LCD TV panels emerging from Pioneer that would build on its already established reputation in the flat panel market.

Commenting on the move, chief fund manager at Ichiyoshi Investment Management Mitsushige Akino said that the company had made a "wise" decision.

The company has been praised in the past for its high performance Kuro plasma range including its recent 60-inch LX608D model which Trusted Reviews said recently was closer to perfection than "any TV we've seen before".

Earlier in the year, the review was echoed by the Sydney Morning Herald who suggested that Pioneer's 50-inch 508XDA was also among the "best in the world".
