Popularity of LCD TVs spreading
02 Jul 2007 13:47It seems as though the increasingly popular nature of flat-panel televisions is yet to cease, and is spreading to all corners of the globe.
According to figures from GfK Retail Audit, LCD TV sales in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Kuwait grew by 278 per cent in January and February this year compared to the same period in 2006.
The research shows that over 25,000 units were shifted during the first two months of 2007 in the Middle East region, valued at more than £16 million. What's more, around 75 per cent of the TVs sold were those with screen sizes of 32 inches or more.
It was also found that Samsung LCD tellies were the most popular.
Commenting on the findings, Nadim Shaikh, production manager for GfK, said: "We have been studying the growth of the region's LCD industry over the years and found that the increase in sales and the switch from traditional to flat-panel TVs can be attributed to consumers seeking higher picture quality, wanting more television sets per room and the remarkable increase in content with the introduction of new free-to-air channels."
