Price cut for Xbox 360?

31 Jul 2007 13:41

Microsoft to reduce the price of the Xbox 360? Hmmm. It must be tricky deciding what price a seventh-generation games console should be. They are pretty swish after all. And so much fun!

Recently, Sony dropped the price of its 60 GB Playstation 3 console in North America by $100 (£50), and now it seems that Microsoft may be about to action a similar price reduction for the Xbox 360.

According to media reports, forthcoming newspaper adverts for two US retailers have appeared on the internet, both of which list the price of the Xbox 360 as $349 (£175) - which equates to a £50 (£25) reduction on the current recommended retail price.

However, no comment has been made by Microsoft on the advertisements, and no announcement has been made about an Xbox 360 price cut.

Moreover, US retail chains such as Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, Target and Best Buy have also refused to say whether or not they are aware that a price cut for the console is in the pipeline.

It is thought that if the Xbox 360 is reduced to $349, the new price will come into effect the week beginning August 12th.
