LCD sets are becoming more and more popular Worldwide sales of liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions jumped up by almost 50 per cent earlier this year.

That is according to the latest figures from research firm DisplaySearch, which indicated that in the three-month period from July to September, LCD revenues reached $17.5 billion (£9 billion).

In addition, it was found that LCD is the only TV technology to have reported year-on-year revenue growth.

Samsung has an 18.4 percent share of the LCD TV market and as such remains the largest maker of the sets. It is closely followed by Sony (15.1 per cent) and Sharp Corp (12.5 per cent).

The data, released yesterday (Monday, November 19th) also shows that plasma TV revenues fell by 19 per cent in the same period.

Matsushita Electric Industrial, maker of Panasonic products, is still the number one plasma supplier in the world with a 32.9 per cent share, Samsung is second with 21.3 per cent and LG Electronics is third (16.3 per cent).
