Samsung 50-inch gets the chocolate treatment

14 Feb 2008 14:34

Samsung's latest plasma adds to the manufacturer's range A new review for Samsung's 50-inch HP-T5064 has considered the units colour and light handling abilities, with Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory used as a barometer for testing.

Myitvendor.ca reports in a recent article that the manufacturer's latest 50-inch plasma screen performs well with shadow detail and its use of primary colour is said to have "particularly impressed".

However, although the panel is noted for doing little to reduce glare it was said to perform well against a number of its competitors where scenes from the film required dark and light to be handled sensitively.

"The HP-T5064's black levels were noticeably deeper than either the Pioneer [PRO-FHD1] or the Vizio [VP50]," the review states.

The review added that comparatively Panasonic's TH-50PX77U had a "tendency to make dark parts of shadows appear a bit too bright" and that this was not a concern with the Samsung model.

The film may have been a good choice to test the abilities of the panel, having won a number of award nominations during 2006 - including BAFTA nods for costume and production design.
