Samsung heads the 'plasma comeback'

12 Feb 2008 13:23

Samsung has a presence in both the LCD and plasma markets The number of LCD TVs on the market may mean that the units are "the hot ticket" but this does not mean there are not any great plasma screens out there, according to one expert.

In an article for UltimateAVmag.com, Thomas Norton writes that Samsung's latest 58-inch models prove that plasma TVs "shouldn't be counted out" and that superior black levels and lower prices mean there are some great screens available.

The manufacturer's FP-T5884 and FP-T5894 are noted for their range of connectivity options, including side-mounted USB ports, as well as their attempts to address issues of burn-in - a problem that has plagued the plasma market.

"Samsung provides several features to combat burn-in, including pixel shift, full white field, scrolling and grey sidebars for 4:3 images," Mr Norton states.

However, one other issue that has also damaged the reputation of the plasma TV is the reflective nature of their glass screens, but the article notes that the manoeuvrability of both the Samsung models means this can be easily rectified.
