Samsung launches new LCD TV

23 May 2007 16:00

Samsung has revealed its latest LCD TVs including 40inch and 70 inch First man: "Do you know what's on the telly tonight?" Second man: "A couple of ornaments and a layer of dust by the looks of it."

Yes, we know it's a terrible joke, but it is one that has a sentiment which rings true with many, many people. You know who you are, those with an out-of-date set which is good for nothing more than resting a few china ducks on.

If you are one of those folk, then pay close attention to what we are about to tell you, because you will probably find it very interesting. Ready? Ok. The clever techie chaps at Samsung have come up with yet another new telly. And what's more, it's one which boasts "the largest LCD TV panel for mass production".

Not only that, but this 70-inch LCD TV features proprietary 120Hz motion-compensated frame interpolation (McFi) technology, which can refresh images at a speed twice as fast as conventional 60Hz models.

And as if that wasn't enough to get you reaching for your wallet, Samsung has also launched a 40-inch LCD TV with LED backlighting, shown at this year's Society for Information Display (SID) in California.

The display was awarded the SID Gold Award for Display of the Year, and according to the firm it has a contrast ratio five times higher than LCD sets with more conventional cold cathode fluorescent light (CCFL) backlighting, and it is capable of producing a 10,000:1 contrast ratio.

You'll probably never be able to look at your old TV in the same way ever again.
