Strong demand for Samsung’s LCD TV Electronics giant Samsung has increased its annual sales target of LCD televisions for 2007 from 11 million to 12 million.

The firm made the announcement on Sunday, September 2nd at the IFA exhibit in Berlin, the biggest consumer electronics trade show in Europe, and revealed that the reason behind the increase was a strong demand for the sets on the continent.

In a statement, Samsung noted that it sold over five million LCD TVs worldwide in the first six month of this year, which equates to a more than 50 per cent increase year-on-year.

In addition, the company's share of the LCD TV market has grown from 14.8 per cent to 18 per cent during the same period.

According to Park Jong-Woo, president of Samsung's digital media division, the firm is now planning to introduce more LCD TVs with larger screens into the consumer market.

Speaking at IFA, he said: "We will place more high-end products such as 40-inch and larger TVs and full high-definition TVs in the markets, including emerging markets."
