Samsung to kit out Royal Caribbean cruise liners with LCD HDTVs Cruise-goers on board Royal Caribbean's Genesis class of ships, due to be phased in from 2009, can look forward to cutting-edge Samsung HDTVs.

In an extended tie-up with the cruise line, Samsung is to supply state-of-the-art LCD HDTVs for the vessels, which include the highly-anticipated Genesis class. The electronics firm expects almost 10,000 of the televisions to be placed in five of Royal Caribbean's ships by 2010.

These will include specially-designed Silver LCD TVs.

"We are honoured to work hand-in-hand with Royal Caribbean Cruises as it builds the most forward-looking and technologically-advanced cruise ships in the world," said Samsung's DJ Oh.

"Their commitment to providing their guests with innovative and exciting amenities is confirmed by their outfitting each stateroom with state-of-the-art LCD flat panel TVs."

Jeff Danis of Royal Caribbean said: "Samsung provides well-designed, advanced products that make our ships even more luxurious and support our commitment to being a leader in innovation in the cruise industry."

Last year Samsung introduced LCD HDTVs into key areas of various Royal Caribbean ships including Freedom of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas and Majesty of the Seas.

The Freedom of the Seas is currently the world's largest passenger ship, able to accommodate more than 4,300 passengers.

Aside from flat-panel TVs, other features include an interactive water park, a winery, and ice rink and an onboard surf wave generator.
