Should Sony cut the price of the PS3?

05 Sep 2007 15:00

Sony have to cut the price of the 80GB PlayStation 3 We're not ones to moan when bigwigs at our favourite electronics firms decide to cut the price of their swish products, and we bet that you're not either!

As with all areas of retail, competitiveness can often start a pricing war and especially so when top-quality high value items are involved.

With seventh-generation consoles, it can be difficult deciding which is the best value for money, in terms of the games available, the longevity of the unit, and whether or not if can play high-def material.

Nevertheless, consumers appear to be making up their minds relatively easily and pluming for the Xbox 360. According to the simExchange, its competitors - namely the 80GB PS3 - need to be made a bit cheaper to 'stay in the game'.

The analysts have drawn up a report which suggests that Sony should knock $100 (£50) off the console's current price tag to make it more appealing, or else introduce an added-value bundle.

Jesse Divinch, the report's author, believes that a price drop is definitely needed as "Sony's third party software support could be at serious risk if they allow Microsoft to continue to widen the sales gap".

Hmm, we'll keep our ears to the ground and let you know if anything transpires!
