Sony to drop price of PS3 in UK?

04 Oct 2007 16:00

Could the PS3 be about to go down in price? Following a few weeks of speculation, and suggestions from various corners of the gaming world, it appears that Sony has finally decided to drop the price of the PS3 console.

According to media reports, the electronics giant is going to make an announcement tomorrow (October 5th) that the price of the 60GB version of the swish game machine will be reduced by £56 to £369.

Pocket-lint.co.uk suggests that "multiple sources in the games industry in the UK" have confirmed the price-drop.

In addition, it is thought that Sony will be bringing out a 40GB version of the PS3 with a recommended retail price of just £299, which it hopes will compete against the Xbox 360 Elite.

A source from a games publisher told the site: "Although we aren't sure when in October it's happening we are aware that the price will drop to £369, with shops probably selling for £349, and a 40GB model launching as well to compete against the Xbox 360."
