Sony tops Samsung in the LCD market

25 Feb 2008 12:51

Sony has topped its closest rival A new report has revealed that Sony has taken the crown of the world's favourite LCD TV manufacturer, taking over from Samsung, Bloomberg reports.

The study, put together by market research company DisplaySearch, showed that during the final quarter of 2007 Sony had taken a 19.5 per cent share of the LCD TV market – making its screens 0.2 per cent more popular than its South Korean rival.

However, both manufacturers recorded growth during the period with Sony building on their 15.9 per cent share from the previous quarter and Samsung gaining an extra 0.6 per cent.

Philips and Sharp also performed well in the study, taking joint third position in the global market and taking 10.1 per cent of the global market.

Earlier this month, the Trusted Reviews website noted that although Samsung was expecting to launch a new spring range, the manufacturer's PS50Q97HDX was a high quality option that consumers would do well to consider before it disappears from the market.
