TV tuner for PS3 in 2008

PlayStation 3 to turn it into a TV recorder It's always nice when something you love suddenly gets a bit better isn't it? Especially if it's an improvement to a cool piece of technology. That's always worth paying attention to!

As such, we couldn't let news that Sony could be introducing a new service to the Playstation 3 pass you by - that just wouldn't be fair now would it?!

It has been speculated that the firm is planning to offer a digital tuner for the second-gen console early next year, which will turn it into a TV recorder, allowing users to record programmes and save them onto the PS3's hard disk.

Warwick Light, sales and marketing manager for Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand, has revealed that plans are underway to "transform the PS3 capabilities so as to meet people's changing entertainment needs".

Speaking to New Zealand newspaper the Press, he said: "We're also hoping next year - about the same time that Freeview launches its terrestrial broadcasting service - to release a digital tuner for the PS3, turning it into a programmable TV recorder."

It is thought that Freeview services will be launched in New Zealand next March, so as such it is expected that this will be when the PS3 digital tuner will appear on the market.
