Words That Work reports this week that there are a number of things to bear in mind before making the leap to high definition television and that it is important to set out what will be required from a screen before purchasing.

The site states that superior levels of brightness and a faster response has traditionally been the department of the plasma TV but adds that LCD has made a number of innovative developments that have narrowed the technological gap.

"Nowadays you'll find that the low electrical power consumption of LCD TV's, the lower actual weight and falling prices have actually made LCD TV’s much more competitive," the article states.

It has been suggested that analysts have noted 2006 as an important year for the flat screen TV market in that a number of technological developments have left more choice in the hands of the consumer.
