Thousands unsure how to switch to digital

14 May 2007 13:00

Switch to digital Getting home from work, slumping into the sofa and turning on the TV only to be greeted with a blank image on the screen would be upsetting to most. Well, unless of course you are used to watching utter dross, in which case it might make a pleasant change.

But on the whole, not being able to watch your favourite programmes on the telly box would be a bit of a disappointment.

Surprising then, to discover the results of a recent survey, which reveals that 50 per cent of people living in rented accommodation don't know how to switch from analogue to digital TV.

Which? reports that the survey, conducted by Digital UK, shows that just 43 per cent of private tenants and 54 per cent of council tenants are aware of what they need to do to in readiness for the switch.

Ford Ennals, chief executive of Digital UK, said: "This research is a wake-up call for any landlords or tenants who have yet to start thinking about switchover.

"Our message is simple: switchover is coming, the countdown has started and you need to prepare."

Better get your skates on then folks, or else those shiny new high-def TVs will just be sitting in your living rooms as very expensive ornaments.
