Toshiba to use carbon fibres?

25 Feb 2008 12:48

will the manufacturer roll out its carbon fbre screens? Toshiba could soon release a new range of high definition (HD) LCD TVs that use carbon fibre casing to improve the weight of their screens.

According to Slash Gear, the manufacturer used its recent spring press events to unveil one of its latest Regza models that was encased in the material – although it is not yet clear if the screens will go into mass production.

The website notes that the carbon fibre enhanced units were produced on a small scale and released for Toshiba's Turkish market following a number of requests from dealers.

However, it is thought that the new Regza LCD TV could prove expensive - adding around $1,000 (£508) to the price of each panel.

"Personally I'd rather spend that thousand dollars for a better quality TV than to have it surrounded by [carbon fibre], but that's just me," the article adds.

Toshiba is set to release a new range Regza CV and XV sets later this year that Register Hardware reports will target the entry-level market.
