29 Oct 2007 16:00

Toshiba believes its TV business is going to be more successful Things seem to be going well in terms of liquid crystal displays and televisions for Toshiba Corp, if its latest announcement is anything to go by.

The Japanese electronics group revealed today (Monday, October 29th) that it is aiming to break even in both its LCD and TV businesses by the end of this financial year.

Fumio Muraoka, executive vice president of the company, told a news conference that Toshiba is aiming to turn its fortunes around after both businesses operated at a loss from April to September this year.

He said that the LCD business posted a loss of JPY7.7 billion on price falls in displays for mobile phones, while in the same period its TV business reported an operating loss of tens of billions of yen.

However, the firm is hoping that its net income will go up by 31 per cent by March 31st to JPY180 billion.

"Toshiba appears to be relatively successful in its choice of businesses to focus on,'' Fumiyuki Nakanishi, a strategist at SMBC Friend Securities Co. in Tokyo, told Bloomberg.

Toshiba makes many top-notch televisions, including the 32C3030 32-inch HD ready widescreen.
