Wii and DS selling really well in Japan

19 Jul 2007 13:32

The Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii are very popular Maybe it's because they love training their brains. Perhaps they can't get enough Wiimote action. Whatever the reason, the Japanese seem to love the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii Console.

According to figures released by video game industry company Enterbrain, both consoles are selling exceptionally well in Japan, with sales of the Wii topping more than three million since its launch in December last year.

In comparison, sales of Sony's PlayStation 3 have so far only reached around one million in Japan. At present, the Wii is priced at 25,000 yen (£100), which is approximately half what the PS3 costs.

The DS has also done well with consumers since it was launched in December 2004. Sales of the hand-held portable device currently total more than 18 million, Reuters news agency reports.

Popular games on the DS include Dr Kawashima's Brain Training, which involves a series of quick thinking tests and puzzles designed to improve your "brain age".
