Wii triumphs at Golden Joysticks

The Wii has been very successful The Oscars and the BAFTAs may be some of the most glamorous ceremonies to take place at any point in the showbiz calendar, but do you ever get the feeling that such award shows just aren't that interesting?

Well, fear not, because there are some awards which are a bit more relevant to those of you out there who have a bit of a penchant for anything game-related.

Yes, that's right, the results are in for the 25th edition of the Golden Joystick Awards, and we are excitedly here to tell you who won what.

As you may have guessed from the headline, the Nintendo Wii did rather well with Wii Sports being crowned Family Game of the Year and the console itself winning the Innovation of the Year title.

Ultimate Game of the Year went to Gears of War, which was also voted Xbox Game of the Year, Editor's Choice and Nuts All-Nighter.

In addition, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess won best Nintendo game and The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar won best PC game while The 4Talent Mobile Game of the Year 2007 went to Final Fantasy.

The Golden Joysticks are organised by UK media publisher Future and the winners were selected by almost three quarters of a million members of the public, who have been able to vote since July.
