Xbox 360 Blu-ray rumours denied

17 May 2007 15:00

Microsoft Xbox 360 to support Blu-ray? Unless you've been sitting in a cave with your fingers in your ears and your eyes firmly closed for the last few months, you will know that HD and Blu-ray are hot topics on the technology scene.

But you're not the sort to miss out on any spangly new electronic advances are you? No, we didn't think so. So you will undoubtedly be interested to hear that the Microsoft has denied rumours that the Xbox 360 will soon be supporting Blu-ray.

Speculation arose after an interview with Peter Moore, head of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business division, was published on Japanese site ITmedia in January which seemed to suggest that the company was considering the format.

However, a recent statement released by the company via the Xbox marketing blog reads: "In an interview with ITmedia back at CES in January of this year, Peter said Xbox 360 has the flexibility to adapt to consumers' needs, allowing Microsoft to add features as consumers demand them - as evidenced by the offering of the HD DVD Player as an accessory.

"Current reports indicating that Microsoft has a back-up plan which includes Blu-ray support are incorrect. We're fully committed to HD DVD and have absolutely no plans to support other optical formats."
