Xbox Elite will hit the shops in August

Microsoft's new Xbox 360 Elite will be released this August The snazzy new Xbox 360 Elite is due to be released in Europe by the end of the summer.

Microsoft made the official announcement at its pre-E3 conference in Santa Monica, revealing that the console will be on the shelves on August 24th, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

Speaking at the conference, the firm's vice president of marketing Jeff Bell also let it be known that the Video Marketplace service will be available in Europe by the end of this year.

He said: "We're committed to bringing Xbox 360 to the world."

Microsoft has so far spent $125 million on content for Video Marketplace, which when it is completed will offer content from 28 different studios, totalling more than 2,000 hours.

The Xbox 360 Elite was released in the US in April this year. The console comes with a black exterior, a 120GB hard-drive and HDMI 1.2 ports, and is priced at $479.99 (£236.50). A UK price for the console has not been revealed.
