Xbox racks up growing sales

Last week saw the console receive a price cut by its manufacturer on both its entry-level player and its 20-gigabyte hard drive older sibling and this has prompted the surge in sales, Digital Spy reports.
However, the site adds that industry monitor Chart Track has noted that the rise is significantly lower than that recorded by Microsoft at the time of its last price cut - which saw the number of units sold rise by 260 per cent.
According to Dorian Bloch, director at Chart Track, the 36 per cent rise will still offer the Xbox a "refreshing uplift" and adds that Microsoft are unlikely to have expected anything too dramatic from the price change.
"The 260 per cent rise Xbox 360 enjoyed in August last year coincided with the introduction of Elite and BioShock coming onto the market, which obviously gave it a massive boost," he said.
Earlier this week, Microsoft suggested they had no plans for Xbox Blu-ray compatibility any time soon.
