Years of brightness with a Panasonic plasma

08 Aug 2007 13:00

Panasonic's 1080p Plasma HDTVs can play 100,000 hours It's pretty widely acknowledged that if you have a top-notch telly, then you should look after it. Especially if you are hoping that it will last a long time!

However, as much as you want your prized possession to be something that you can keep for years and then pass on to your grandchildren, there is always the risk that you may have bought yourself a telly that will be kaput in about five years' time.

Not so, if you have a high-definition television from Panasonic. The firm has revealed that it's 1080p Plasma HDTVs are capable of playing for 100,000 hours before reaching half-brightness. Which is an awful lot of time for a telly!

The firm made the announcement yesterday (Tuesday) and stated that owners of a
Panasonic 1080p Plasma will be able to sit through six and a half hours of TV programmes and films a day - for 42 years.

Dr Paul F Liao, Panasonic's chief technology officer, said: "This is a significant step for Panasonic Plasma and something we feel is yet another differentiator for our Plasma HDTV products.

"What makes this milestone even more significant is that this rating is to half brightness, not until end of life cycle. Even after 42 years, on average, our Plasma HDTVs could still be able to provide their owners with clear, crisp colourful high-definition images."

Panasonic's 720p Plasma high-def sets can play for 60,000 hours until they reach half-brightness, which equates to six and a half hours of viewing pleasure every day for 25 years.
